About us

Lifting Gear & Safety (LGS) started trading in 2009 from a small single unit in Bristol. To-day the company has eight locations along the coasts of both South Wales and the South of England employing 50 very motivated and skilled people.

The growth of the company during this relatively short period says more ‘About us’ than any clever and inventive narrative could ever do. Certainly, constant reinvestment and good decision making have been key factors but we cannot ignore the solid fact that our core strength derives from the enthusiasm, experience and skill sets that our team demonstrate daily in their passion, not only for the company but for the business they are in. We are an independent company but we like to think that, in our field of the supply, hire and servicing of Lifting, Marine & Safety equipment, we are up there with the very best.

What we do

Hopefully you will be browsing through the web site and don’t want to be bogged down with too much reading material here. Suffice to say that in our Lifting division, our products range from a simple Shackle to a high tonnage and complex Spreader beam assembly or from an Electric Chain hoist to a Box Culvert Pulling system. The Marine division cover a similarly broad range from a First Aid kit to a 60+ man Lift Raft whilst you will find everything from a Safety Harness to a Rack & Pinion Hoist in our safety division.

The love of the business dictates that we are not happy unless we can provide a total package and that means striving to offer a very broad spectrum of supporting services.

In a typical day, a snapshot of the company could see us carrying out LOLER inspections on a Construction site, producing specialist Fibre Rope assemblies for Oceanography or inspecting Mobile Cranes. Similar expertise runs through the Marine division where we could be servicing a SOLAS lift raft, making a large diameter ships mooring rope or even disposing of Pyrotechnecs. The installation of a horizontal roof lifeline could be the order of the day for the Safety division, but then so could the servicing of a Fall Arrest Block or the erection of a Rack & Pinion Passenger Hoist on a Construction Site.


LGS is committed not just to constant improvement but to providing quality in every aspect of the business. Our systems and procedures are subject to regular internal and external audits and we are both ISO9001 & 14001 accredited. Additionally and amongst others we hold approvals from SMAS & Achilles.

We are full members of the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) are are proud that our engineers are amongst the most experienced and qualified in the industry. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) have approved our service station and we hold a wide range of manufacturers approvals for our Marine Safety products.
