Who Should Attend: Employees who are responsible for supervising lifting operations involving mobile cranes and Lifting Procedures

 

Pre-Requisites:
Delegates should be experienced in working with mobile cranes, over 18 years of age and have good hearing and eyesight.

 

Course Objectives:
  • Outline the legal requirements for cranes and lifting operations
  • Understand risk assessments and method statements
  • Identify and state the function of key components of mobile cranes
  • Select suitable lifting accessories for the operation
  • Provide adequate supervision to enable the lifting operation to be carried out safely

 

Course Outline:
  • Health & Safety law (HSWA, 1974. PUWER, LOLER 1998.)
  • BS7121 Code of Practice for the Safe use of Cranes
  • Lifting Plan (risk assessments, method statements and be able to implement)
  • Safe System of Work
  • Crane duties, Hand signals and the Safe Operation and use of Radios
  • Safe use of Lifting Accessories, SWL Angle Loading, inspection of accessories prior to use, Finding Defects
  • Supervising and Controlling lifting operations
  • Reporting of Defects Fault Finding

 

Teaching Methods:
Lectures and video presentations based on current legislation, British Standards, HSE Guidance. The LEEA’s Code of Practice for the Safe use of Lifting Equipment. Syndicate exercised in planning and carrying out a lifting operation

 

Assessment:
Delegates will be required to complete two written assessments based on information learnt during the course. Multi choice Question Papers and Site assessment.
