Course Title: Management of the lifting operation (appointed person) – NPORS
Location: LGS Training Centre or Customer’s Premises
Duration: 2 and 3 Days
Max No. Delegates: 8/10

 

Who Should Attend: Candidates will be required to complete a written assessment at the end of each training session. This comprises of multi-choice question paper based on course material and DVD’s

 

Pre-Requisites:
Delegates should be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of Slinging with Cranes and Lifting equipment & site safety

 

Course Objectives:
  • Demonstrate and understanding health & safety legislation affecting lifting operations
  • Be aware of the appointed persons duties and responsibilities as required by BS7121 Pt 1: 1989, to Parts 1-5, Plan the Lift
  • Operate Safe Systems of Work, Implement Method Statement & Risk Assessment
  • Provide effective supervision to satisfy the requirements of HSWA, LOLER.PUWER

 

Course Outline:
  • The H&S Act 1974. Loler & Puwer 1998 Regs
  • BS7121 Code of Practice for the Safe use of Cranes (Parts 1-5)
  • Understand and Prepare a Safe systems of work & Drawing Exercise
  • Crane selection, Types of Cranes, Ground Loadings and Crane Set Up
  • Personnel selection, PPE required , Reporting Procedure
  • Risk Assessment & Method Statements Hazard Spotting
  • Planning the lifting operation to BS:7121 & Safe System of Work
  • Lifting Equipment Inspection Prior to use , Safe Working Loads & Angle Loadings
  • Hand Signals & safe operation of Radios
  • Planning a Lift & Organise a Safe System

 

Teaching Methods:
Lectures & DVD/Video presentations based on current legislation, British Standards, HSE Guidance. BS: 7121. The LEEA Code of Practice for the Safe use of Lifting Equipment. Exercised in planning and carrying out a lifting operation, Risk & Method Statement, Drawings RSS T&C Site Safety Pocket Guides & SWL Charts

 

Assessment:
Delegates will be required over the 2-3 days to complete a written Risk & Method Statement & Drawings Exercise, Lift Plan & Safe System of Work. Multi Choice Question Papers.
